In case you can’t wait, here is the end of the review:

“Let us be crystal clear: we love this phone. Nay, we adore it. But the fact remains that it’s still very much an Android device — which means that if you don’t like Android now, odds are good that even Android executed on the most amazing hardware to date won’t do much to change your opinion of it. You’ve also got to be concerned about upgradeability; Froyo is almost certainly around the corner now, and HTC hasn’t done anything to suggest it’s able to push Sense-powered updates in a timely fashion.

That said, this is truly one of the best smartphones ever made, and even spotty 4G — a reality of a young technology that’s going to take years to properly build out — probably won’t do much to hamper your enjoyment of this thing. It’s reasonable to assume that phones like the EVO will ultimately come to every carrier over the next few months… but hey, if you jumped ship for Sprint to pick up this monster, we wouldn’t be able blame you.”

“As Clearwire (NASDAQ:CLWR) gears up to offer its first WiMax handsets later this year, it finds itself in unique position among wireless operators. It has no legacy voice service or network to maintain and thus has a clean slate to offer the first U.S. mobile voice service based entirely on voice over IP.

Chief commercial officer Mike Sievert said Clearwire is definitely investigating offering voice as an another IP service over its 4G WiMax network, and as Clearwire’s footprint grows it could eventually become the dominant voice service on its network, obviating the need for a CDMA 1X connection that will be standard in its initial handsets. But Sievert said if such a VoIP service does happen it will be further down road. At launch, Clearwire will most likely rely on Sprint (NYSE:S) or other network-sharing partners for their CDMA connections, he said.”

Engadget has a story about a new HTC phone that will have 4G embedded.  It is only a matter of time until mobile phones have 4G access.  The big question for me is battery life, and the ability to share the connection with other devices around you, laptops, TVs, game consoles, etc.  The mobile phone would become a wifi hot spot.

There is no question that more and more things in my house are going to have Wifi, they will need a way to get out to the world….it will be an even more connected world.

My refrigerator tells my watch that I am low on milk, my watch tells my car, as I drive around my car asks each store we pass if they have milk on sale, my car lets me know to make a milk stop.

From the Engadget article:

“Looking at hundreds of FCC documents each and every week, it’s pretty difficult for us to get too excited about any particular filing, but there are two words that do it for us each and every time: “LTE” and “WiMAX.” In this case, the latter word caught our eye all throughout the filing for HTC model PC36100, which runs WiMAX on Sprint’s (and Clearwire’s) 2500MHz band alongside the standard suite of CDMA bands with EV-DO. In other words, folks, yes — it’s true — you’re looking at the frickin’ EVO 4G for Sprint. There’s not much to see here, really; it’s still under confidentiality for the external photos, but at least they’ve cleared that all-important FCC hurdle on the way to retail, which will be… soon, Sprint? Right? Please?”
